DIY Kettle Filter
I've never been a brewer who cares much about the amount of trub transferred from kettle to fermenter, however in the case of the FastFerment (14G), cold break and/or hops quickly overwhelm both the 1.5" valve opening and the 1.5L collection ball volume.
I had a few spare parts sitting around and decided to have a go at making a kettle filter to help clean up my transfers to primary.
Parts
- 1/2" stainless tee
- 1/2" stainless nut
- 1/2" stainless washers (2)
- Silicone o-ring (2)
- Brass 1/2" barb
- 3/8" stainless racking cane
- 10" x 20" of 30 x 30 stainless mesh
Instructions
Fold the mesh in half then use scissors to cut a small "X" in the center of one side. Using the barb, threaded it through the "X" to form a hole. Top side assembly is mesh/o-ring/washer/barb. Bottom side is o-ring/washer/tee. Once everything is connected, pinch fold the perimeter of the mesh to form a pocket. Racking cane passes through the center of the barb and rests on the base of the tee inside the pocket.
